Eye and Ear Clinic: Fall 2006 Schedule
Fridays at 4:30 p.m.
112 S. Michigan, room 1307

9/15: Upload
Presented by Emily Kuehn

The idea of public broadcasting is nothing new, but recently a host of websites that allow users to upload their own content  redefines peoples relationship to media in a way PBS never could have imagined.  This Eye and Ear program will examine trends, and anomalies on sites like: YouTube, Google Video, iFilm, Outload, and Metacafe in an attempt to understand—when given the opportunity to choose and create their own content—what the public actually wants from broadcast media.

9.22: Selected Films from the Gryphon Group
Presented by Paula Salhany

In the 1940s, as the American AG film community began to grow roots on the East and West coasts, a group of filmmakers came together to form the Gryhpon Group. In the beginning, the group consisted of only two filmmakers:  Marie Menken and Willard Maas. Menken registered the name with a Christmas bonus from Time Inc. thus making official a long history of collaborative queer underground avant-garde cinema. The group eventually grew to include filmmakers such as Ben Moore, Charles Boultenhouse, Gregory Markopolous, Stan Brakhage and Charles Henri Ford. The films chosen for this program are a glimpse into a little known, but highly influential group of filmmakers.

“Geography of the Body” by Willard
“Glimpse of the Garden” by Marie Menken
“Dionysius” by Charles Boultenhouse
“DesistFilm” by Stan Brakhage
“Poem Posters” by Charles Henri Ford

10.13: Uncertain Nostalgia
Presented by Chris Royalty
"Uncertain Nostalgia" features works which document, revisit, and re-examine tragedies and failures of American progressive politics since 1950. The nostalgia of the title refers to both the nostalgia of the filmmakers, as well as the audience's nostalgia for a once hopeful history.

Richard Myers - "Kent State Confrontation"
Ant Farm - "Eternal Frame"
Michael Smith - "Mike Builds a Shelter"
Short videos and prints by John Azzarella

11/10: REPETITION HA!
Presented by Lori Felker

REPETITION HA is a celebration of the mundane and simple cum ridiculous and enlightening via the mind-numbing, mind-altering powers of repetition. What is revealed through all of this minimalist layering... and if nothing is revealed, what do we do?
